Make the question smaller: “Which top would I like for tomorrow's meeting?” or “How could I wear this jacket to dinner?” Pick two or three options from your wardrobe. Keep the shoes and trousers similar so you can focus on the color choice. You do not need to replace your wardrobe or find a permanent category before trying an outfit.
Exercise 2 · A fair comparisonCompare real fabrics in the same light
Try holding each garment near your face in one spot by a window. If you take comparison photos, keep the lighting and camera position consistent and skip beauty filters. Lighting and white balance can change the colors in a photograph; Adobe's color-cast guide explains why a photo may look warmer or cooler than expected. Our suggestion: use the mirror and the actual garment alongside any screen preview.
Exercise 3 · A few useful contrastsTry lighter, deeper, softer and bolder
Compare light blue with navy, or a muted rose with a brighter pink. Which combination feels right for this occasion? You can also compare silver and gold accessories, or white and cream tops, as styling choices. This guide does not treat a vein color or a preference for one metal as a definitive season test. Keep a note of what you like rather than ruling out whole families of colors.

Build one look you want to wear
Try one main color, one neutral and an optional accent using pieces you own. For example, compare a blue top with navy trousers against the same top with cream trousers. These are experiments, not universal formulas. We do not assign one “safe” palette to everyone with the same skin depth. Pastels, saturated colors and muted shades are all options to explore.

How do I start choosing colors?
Pick one occasion and compare two or three garments in the same light. Keep the rest of the outfit similar, then choose the combination you prefer. A palette is a starting point for experimenting, not a rule you must follow.
Can a vein test or jewelry test tell me my season?
This guide does not use a single vein or jewelry test to assign a season. You can compare gold and silver as a styling exercise without treating your preference as proof of an undertone.
Do darker skin tones need a particular palette?
We do not prescribe one palette based on skin depth. Explore pastels, muted shades, neutrals and saturated colors, and compare the combinations you enjoy. You do not need to avoid a color because of a category.
